A lacklustre Town bowed out of the Carling Cup at the second round stage after suffering a 2-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers. Ricky Ravenhill netted the first in the seventh minute and Jermaine McSporran added to the home side's lead in the first attack of the second half.

Town boss Joe Royle will ring the changes when the Blues make the trip to Doncaster Rovers for a second round Carling Cup tie on Tuesday (KO 7.45pm). Matt Richards, Tony Dinning and Dean Bowditch will all start Town's first game at Belle Vue since 1958.

Town came from behind to gain a deserved point from an entertaining 1-1 draw with West Ham at Upton Park. Malky Mackay seized on an error in the Town defence to put the Hammers ahead early on but the Blues struck back through Pablo Couñago in the second half.

Town boss Joe Royle admits that although he is keen to add to his squad, no new signing is immediately on the cards. Royle has been after a defender on a season-long loan, while a wide man and a striker have also interested him over the summer.

Town manager Joe Royle says he is still hopeful of bringing in a defender on a season-long loan. Royle revealed he was close to tying up a deal for a defender with a Premiership club after the Crystal Palace friendly, but the move subsequently stalled.

Town's U18 side lost 3-1 to Liverpool in a friendly at Playford Road on Saturday morning. An early goal from Blair Hammond was not enough for a young Blues side.

Town got the new season off to a victorious start, coming from behind to beat Gillingham 2-1 at Portman Road. The visitors went in front through Paul Smith but the Blues struck back via Richard Naylor and Dean Bowditch.
